Animals were marked according to owner and number codes by using branding irons that were heated very hot and pressed against animal skin. During the first hours or days, the animals may suffer because of the branding, but after that, they are marked forever. When you try to acquire a virtue, you also go through pains and sufferings; this can be likened to the markings on animals, as this can be stressful and push us beyond our limits, but once you have the virtue, you have it for life. Only the grateful people succeed in seeing the positive in everything, that is why I want to be grateful; a friend told me that I had to be humble to be grateful and that is why I love to have gratefulness. These irons were used to mark the animals and easily identify them and these signified that they are owned by someone else; this should be respected by all the people around. I need not press hot iron against my skin to say that I belonged to someone else or the that anyone owns me; I am human and I just need to believe and decide that I give myself to belong, and not mark myself on the external. I am so grateful that I was not an animal that had to go through the pains of the branding that happens in farms; I will be able to decide for my life and learning about these tools to mark animals really made me thankful I am human. You do not need to mark yourself just to get a sense of identity; identity is something that you own and know deep in yourself because you are the one who ultimately knows yourself.
